The July 17 program was
to be by Elizabeth Guenzler however, her program will be rescheduled later in
the year. Instead, the July 17 program will be presented by Central Coast
Board member and Director, Scott Gerken.
An overview of the program is as follows: This will be a
multiple continent show from Europe, Africa, and North America. For Europe, he will be covering the Didcot
Railway Centre which is a living museum in England that is dedicated to the
Great Western Railway (GWR). In Africa we will have a short visit to Zimbabwe
and Zambia where we will see several steam locomotives including three
Garretts. Two of the Garretts are
being restored. Also covered in Africa
will be a dinner train in Zambia that runs from Livingston, Zambia to the
Zimbabwe border at Victoria Falls. In
North America, we will visit the Railway Museum of British Columbia. Outside of Whistler, British Columbia we
will visit the remains of an old train wreck that has been turned into a
hiking destination and “Art Museum.” August 22, 2026
Annual Banquet We will again present our
much-enjoyed annual banquet for Central Coast NRHS on Saturday August 22 from
5:00 until 9:00 pm at the Santa Clara Caltrain Depot. Dinner will be catered
by Doña Marias and will feature a buffet of Mexican cuisine of such favorites
as enchiladas, flautas, tacos along with salad, chips, salsa, and drinks. The
banquet price will again be only $25.00 for this special evening. Plan on
attending an evening with other Central Coast members for good conversation,
a tasty meal, an interesting program, and a raffle of railroad books or
memorabilia. Please get your reservations in by than Monday, August 10. Note:
There is no third Friday meeting in August. Doors open at 5:00 pm
and dinner will be at 6:00 pm. The program, presented by Evan Werkema, will
begin as dinner concludes. Evan is skilled at researching various archives to
present interesting historical details of Western Railroading. He has presented
and helped with many interesting Western railroading subjects at both Central
Coast NRHS and Winterail. He is putting together an interesting program. Tickets can be

Meeting The September 18
program will hope to cover member and others slides and video clips of the
recent Western and upcoming Midwest and Eastern Union Pacific Big Boy
cross-country trips. We have received some slides and videos and look forward
to having members and others sending in their videos. If any members have
photos they’ve taken of this locomotive during its recent Western trip or
upcoming eastern trip, we would like you to share them to show them at our
September meeting. We will not use them for any other purposes. Please send

Central Coast received
a donation of many railroad-related books from longtime member Conrad
Gleason. The collection includes about 1000 hardcover books, and another 1000
in soft bindings. We will offer these for sale at the next several Chapter
meetings. Since it is not practical to transport all of the books to the
meetings, we will bring a small, random subset about 100 to each meeting. Many of the books are listed
online with prices at http://members.trainorders.com/clem.
We will update the list as time permits. If you wish to purchase any of these
titles please send an email expressing the title or titles you wish to buy
