Action At Bayshore Yard

Bayshore Yard 1977
It's 1977 and Bayshore Yard is still active - not teaming - but active. In the foreground, a train is ready for its power, while many of the classification tracks hold cars enough to keep two tricks of employees busy. In the background is Tunnel 4, part of the commute line to San Francisco. Middle-right is the Bayshore yard tower, to the extreme left remnants of the once-extensive Bayshore shop complex.
The Bayshore Shuffle
SP GP40P-2 3197 pauses with a San Jose-bound "plug" at the Bayshore commuter shelter. Note the Bayshore yard tower in the background. It's December 26th of 1976 and the Bay Area is having a "bad air day." SP 9032 and a UP SD40 run light to the front of their train for a run to Watsonville Junction via San Jose.  Click photo to enlarge. Both photos by Ken Rattenne)
SP SDP45 3200 speeds railroad east after exiting the last tunnel on the commute line.  SP 4107 East departs Bayshore Yard for San Jose and Watsonville Junction on November 17, 1977. Power for today's local is a GP20E and GP35.
