Western Pacific's Final GP40

Western Pacific 3544 was the last GP40 to be delivered to the railroad. Built in 1971, the unit has lived a full life since being returned to lessor GATX by Union Pacific back in 1984.

After a short stint as a lease unit, 3544 made its way to the upstart CM&W as their 3544. It was eventually renumbered and repainted to CM&W 3025, then became Gateway Western (GTEW) 3025 after the unsuccessful CM&W went belly-up. Finally, our WP 3544 was sold to the Wisconsin Central where it kept its 3025 number.

The unit is pictured here at Stockton, CA, home to the railroad's system diesel shop and mecca for railfans.

Facing railroad east, 3544 is wearing the initial version of the Perlman Green paint scheme, and has the full lighting package typical of the final order of units. Photo courtesy of Frank Brehm and the "My Western Pacific Home Page" web site. If you haven't been there, you should.
