Just north of the Santa Fe's Empire Yard is Dry Creek Bridge, spanning a broad wash populated by thick brush and an almond orchard.  On January 27, 1990 Amtrak 232 marches westbound across Dry Creek on it's way to Riverbank. Back in Empire an eastbound Santa Fe intermodal freight will be allowed to leave the yard for Fresno, illustrating the on-going commitment by host railroad Santa Fe (and later BNSF) to keeping the San Joaquin on time.
