In July of 1993 Amtrak was testing a Swedish-built trainset known as the X2000. Slowing for it's stop at Riverbank on July 12th, the X2000 trainset has been pressed into San Joaquin service for one roundtrip as part of a nationwide barnstorming tour. Since the X2000's locomotive (seen here trailing) required electricity from overhead wires for propulsion, the trainset required an F40PH to haul it "everywhere west." Unfortunately for the photographer, the return trip was made under cover of darkness.
