Approaching the Stockton depot on March 7, 1976 San Joaquin Train 710 still sports ex-SP FP7As and and steam-heated coaches. By this time, however, SDP40Fs 542 and 543 had been  assigned to the power pool, having been transferred out West from Florida service. This was the beginning of the end for the Amtrak Fs. Once gone, the only Covered Wagons to be seen in the Golden State would be Western Pacific's Fabulous Four.
